Instructions

Most birds collect twigs to build their nests, but the cavities of trees are roosted by woodpeckers. They carve out their nests by pecking on the wood of dead trees. Woodpeckers hollow out holes large enough to fit and lay eggs.

Finally, like many other creatures, woodpeckers make noises to attract mates and establish safe places to call home. The drumming performance is a way for males and females to communicate with one another. During mating season, woodpeckers drum on many different surfaces: trees, telephone poles, or even house siding, much to homeowners’ dismay.
