Learning Standard for Today: 6.NS.B.4 Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal
to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to
12. Use the distributive property to express a sum of two whole numbers 1–100
with a common factor as a multiple of a sum of two whole numbers with no common
factor. For example, express 36 + 8 as 4 (9 + 2).
We are going to apply GCF and LCM to real world situations today.
Remember GCF is going to help us solve problems where we need to divide things or share them equally. For example, you put a red bead in every 3rd basket and a blue bead in every 4th basket. Which basket will be the first to get a red and blue bead?
LCM will help us solve problems to find when things with different cycles can occur at the same time. For example, Sarah works every 4 days. Sally works every 5 days. Which day will be the first that they work together?
Watch the video and work through several problems. We will be using our textbook today beginning on page M1-52.
